More than 5.2 million international tourists travelled to Viet Nam in the first five months of 2017, an increase of 29.6% when compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.
Viet Nam’s major tourism markets saw impressive growth. In particular, growth from Asian countries reached 3.82 million visitors, up 34.4% compared to the same period last year.
China took the lead with more than 1.5 million visitors, marking a year-on-year increase of 55%.
In addition, Viet Nam saw a surge in the number of visitors from Russia by 52.8%, the Republic of Korea by 40%, Hong Kong (China) by 31%, Cambodia by 30% and Spain by 29%.
In May alone, Viet Nam welcomed 972,844 tourists, up 26.8% compared to the same period last year.
The number of foreign arrivals who came via air was 847,525, while 5,996 arrived via sea and 119,323 million arrived over land.
