With an area about 115,000 ha of agricultural land using for rice, vegetables and fruit-trees cultivation, Can Tho city harvests more than one million tons of paddy rice annually, in which over 500,000 tons of rice are processed and exported; more than 100,000 tons of fruits, about 200,000 tons of aqua products and 20,000 tons meat of cattle and poultry. Song Hau Farm, Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute and Faculty of Agriculture of Can Tho University are well-known in the area where many scientists and research students have visited and learnt of breeding and producing…

Can Tho has is a diverse tropical fruit collection. Some species adapted strongly to soil of specific area. For instance, Ha Chau Baccaurea is the sole fruit which can be grown at Phong Dien, a rural district of Can Tho. Besiades, Phong Dien also have many other kinds of tropical fruits such as mangosteen, durian, rambutan, langsat, guava, longan, custard… Meanwhile, Song Hau Farm is suitable for growing Hoa Loc mango; islets of Can Tho where are enriched by alluvium of Hau river are suitable to cultivate tropical fruits such as An Phuoc Plum, Nam Roi pomelo, jackfruit, sapodilla, custard…

 
Rivers and wet paddy rices are perfect living condition for fresh water fish, shrimp and other aqua species. Hence, many dishes made from aqua products can be found easily in menu of restaurants in Can Tho. The king of river fishes could be snakehead fish, a popular fish of Mekong Delta. It is cooked in many ways to have many traditional dishes such as: sour soup, snakehead fish cooked with fish sauce, grilled snakehead fish, steamed snakehead fish, rice soup with snakehead fish. Besides, Basa fish, one kind of Vietnamese catfish with smooth skin, white meat, less bone, is cultivated in a large scale mainly for export. In addition, hundreds of other aquatic species are raised in local farms such as eels, frogs, catfish, tilapia, red tilapia, Giant gourami…
