In the past, waterway transportation developed vitally due to natural condition of rivers and canals. As aresult, floating market has been opened right on the river as a unique form with specific cultural feature. Over the past decades, although roadway transportation has been gradually replaced, this kind of market on the river still exists for not only its beginning purpose but also tourist attraction.

Over the past decades, although roadway transportation has been gradually replaced, this kind of market on the river still exists for not only its beginning purpose but also tourist attraction.

Major items sold in the market are mostly fruits, vegetables of the Mekong River delta. Differently, sellers of floating market do not advertise their goods by mouth as others of land markets. In steads of, they hang samples of goods on a long bamboo in front of their boat to let buyers know what they are selling. Besides, the floating market also have most of services like normal markets such as food, gas station, grocery and machinery repair, haircut, hairwash…

Far from the center of Can Tho city about 6km towards the National Highway 1, the floating market is on Can Tho river, near Cai Rang bridge. The market usually starts at early morning and ends about 9a.m. Appropriate time to visit is from 6 a.m to 8 a.m for its rush hours.

How to get there: Tourists can visit the floating market in two ways:

– Waterway: Hire boat from Ninh Kieu Wharf to go to there about 30 minutes.

– Roadway and waterways: Take taxi to An Binh market (under the Cai Rang bridge), then hire boat to get there around 5 minutes.
